Commitment
We believe in what we do and we give our full dedication to make it possible. We work with the conviction that consistent action can transform lives over time.
Our Story
Si Asha Foundation is a non-profit organisation working in Nepal to support children and young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.
We were created to respond to a reality that still affects thousands of families across the country: children with disabilities growing up without access to special education, therapy or specialised care, often isolated at home and excluded from society due to the lack of accessible services.
Si Asha Foundation exists to ensure that disability is never a reason for exclusion, invisibility or abandonment.
Si Asha Foundation began with the vision and long-term commitment of Aina Barca in Nepal. Through close work with children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, she encountered a reality that was largely invisible: many children were growing up without access to education, therapy or protection — not because they lacked potential, but because appropriate services simply did not exist.
In 2012, this experience led to the creation of the first Asha School in Hetauda, offering special education and care to children who had previously been excluded from the education system. What started as a small initiative soon revealed a much wider national need.
Over time, Asha School evolved into a comprehensive model that combines special education, therapy and rehabilitation, daily care and residential support. The model has been shaped through continuous collaboration with Nepali professionals, families and local authorities, always responding to real needs on the ground.
As the work grew, Si Asha Foundation was established to provide the organisational structure, governance and long-term vision needed to sustain and expand this model across Nepal. Today, the Asha Schools and programmes operate under Si Asha Foundation, which coordinates and supports their development.
While the initiative began with Aina Barca's vision, Si Asha Foundation is today a Nepali organisation sustained by local leadership, professionals and partners committed to long-term change.
Our purpose remains clear: to ensure that children and young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can access education, therapy and protection — province by province.
Today, Si Asha Foundation continues to grow guided by one core belief: lasting change is only possible through presence, professionalism and long-term commitment.
Why we are here
Our mission is to support children and young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout their entire life journey.
From early childhood to adulthood, we create safe, structured and caring environments where each person can learn, grow and live with dignity.
Where we are going
We envision a Nepal where children and young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are seen, supported and included.
Our long-term vision is to expand special education and therapeutic services province by province, ensuring that no child is left behind because of where they are born.
We believe in what we do and we give our full dedication to make it possible. We work with the conviction that consistent action can transform lives over time.
We act with responsibility and authenticity. What we say, what we decide and what we do are aligned with our mission and values.
We are open and honest about how we work and how resources are managed. Trust is built through clarity, accountability and shared responsibility.
We stand for a society where everyone has the same opportunities to learn, participate and belong. Diversity strengthens communities and makes us better as a whole.
We put our heart into every step. We work with energy, dedication and care, because when love is put into action, it creates real change.
We choose to focus on possibilities, even in challenging contexts. Because without hope and optimism, lasting change is not possible.
Si Asha Foundation is sustained by a multidisciplinary team that combines vision, experience and responsibility. People from different professional backgrounds work together to ensure that every decision is thoughtful, every programme is sustainable and every step forward is built to last.
Behind the daily work, there is strategy, governance and long-term commitment—because meaningful impact requires care, structure and continuity.
Take action.
Hope is not something we wait for. It is built every day
— through care, commitment and action.
